The Sierra passes are closed and full winter is in effect. It is bitterly cold, which is uncomfortable for humans, but natural phenomena make for interesting subjects. Freezing fog (pogonip) often blankets Mono Lake and Crowley Lake, ice jacking at the edge of lakes can occur, and hoarfrost appears.
