Fremont Festival of the Arts and In-Person Training

Recently I had the privilege of assisting in a workshop for a photographer whose technical knowledge, awareness of off-the-beaten-path locations, and artistry is broad and deep. It was a thrill. He wasn’t fazed by the broad range of questions, from basics of settings and equipment maintenance to philosophy of composition, and I realized that I have accumulated a fair amount of knowledge on my journey. I was able to offer advice on composition, camera settings, where to be, how I make decisions, and assisted a student one-on-one who joined me on an independent excursion I had been planning for myself. As a teacher it was incredibly satisfying. There are many images similar to this one because I was sharing the space with fourteen other photographers, but it represents more than that. I plan on one day sharing what has become my backyard in the Eastern Sierra (We own a home in Mammoth Lakes), and I would like to start with one-on-one tutoring in photography. More to come on that subject!

We will be selling prints at the Fremont Festival of the Arts this weekend (August 3rd and 4th), and if you’d like to chat in person about training opportunities (either local or in the backcountry), we will be there all day Saturday and Sunday.
