After visiting the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest countless times, it is my favorite place to be. It’s a small area on a map, but you may have noticed I spend a lot of time making images there. My deep fondness for the Great Basin bristlecone makes it the perfect subject for my first book, Branches in Time.

This art book compiles 63 images of the Great Basin bristlecone pine and its environs, taken over multiple years. It represents both grand vistas of the Bristlecone’s habitat as well as intimate, detailed studies of its fascinating wood. With each image is a written description, often scientific, that explains the species’ challenging growing conditions that make it a rare tree and the oldest non-clonal organism on earth, reaching nearly 5,000 years of age in some cases. I also share my photography process for some of the images, describing my methods and thinking. Sometimes I try to be funny.

One of the most common comments I hear from art festival-goers is that they don’t have room on their walls for more art, even though they love my work. This book can be displayed on your shelf, on a table, given to friends, or even hidden under your pillow to bring sweet dreams of gently swaying pine branches (dreams are not guaranteed). At $49.99, I hope that it appeals to your wallet, as well (shipping will be $8). You can also order online and choose to pick up in person at an art festival or somewhere convenient along the Hwy 395 corridor.

As of June, 2025, this book is a work in progress. I expect to have it published and available for immediate delivery around in August, 2025. It will be 88 pages in length at a dimension of 10″x11″ and beautifully printed on glossy paper by MTPress & Offset Lithography Solutions. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed creating it!

If you’re already sold and would like to preorder a copy (and support the cost of publishing it), thank you. After receiving a standard confirmation email, you will also see a follow-up email with more details specifically about this preorder. I will be accepting preorders until the book is ready to ship. Or you can see it in person at any of the art festivals I will be vending at. Stay tuned to learn when the book is published.
